WYMONDHAM COLLEGE
BOARDING - KETT HALL
The House is named after Robert Kett who led the peasants’ rebellion in 1549. The ordinary people were losing the common land that was essential for grazing their animals because the landowners were fencing in all the commons. Robert Kett was a wealthy landowner who saw how unjust the situation was and sided with the ordinary people.
Robert led a march to Norwich and camped on Mousehold Heath. He eventually captured Norwich. The King sent an army which was defeated by Kett and in the end mercenaries needed to be hired to defeat the peasant army.
During the time that the rebels had control of Norwich, social order prevailed; incidents of looting and wilful damage were remarkably rare. Robert Kett appears to have been a genuinely good and decent man who was fighting for what he believed to be right and without any possibility of personal gain. A good example to follow!
The Kett family is a vibrant and supportive one and we look forward to welcoming you, whether it is for a quite look round, or whether it is for five wonderfully positive and enriching years.
