ABOUT US - SENd

The Learning Support Department is a welcoming and friendly environment.

At the very heart of Wymondham College we work together to identify and overcome barriers to learning. Promoting and facilitating inclusion to foster greater independence and ensure access to a world class and enriching education.
Every recommendation and decision made is to further the best interests of all of our students.

The Learning Support Department is well equipped with spacious classrooms and networked computers, alongside a range of resources to support the additional needs of students.

The Learning Support Team are experienced and approachable, providing dynamic and flexible support for students of all ages and difficulties throughout the school. Learning Leads are mentors for their students, delivering tailored in-curriculum intervention programmes, reviewing progress and providing targeted support within the classroom, as appropriate. The Team support teaching staff by having a sound knowledge and understanding of SENd issues and of the individual needs of the students they support. Through transition and collaboration with external agencies the Team identify and share strategies to ensure all SENd students can access the curriculum and site.

Curriculum Plus and Core Support sessions are delivered within the Department, to identified students, these sessions include support with activities, including: literacy skills, numeracy skills, pre and post tutoring support, handwriting, touch typing, paired reading, spelling, planning and preparing for assessments.

The SENCo (Special Needs and Disability Co-ordinator) plus 16 members of staff make up the Learning Support Team, who take great pride in promoting the College ethos and values by:

  • Recognising each pupil as an individual learner with his or her particular educational needs.

  • Promoting each individual's entitlement to a curriculum which is broad, balanced and suitably differentiated.

  • Promoting the rights of equal opportunity and equality of regard.

  • Maximising potential to help individual students to develop confidence to become independent adults.

  • Believing that every child matters.
